Rubbermaid Terrarium Questions
    #3295230 - 10/29/04 10:12 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I think some of my cakes are just about 100% colonized. They've shrunk and I can see mycelium all over. Me being me waits till the last minute to to do everything. I'm going to leave them in there for awhile longer to set up the terrarium and to see if anything happens before I dunk them.

I've done some searching and it looks like a lot of people just use a Rubbermaid container with a clear top and perlite and an inch or two of water on the bottom. I've got a lot of different sized containers that I was planning on throwing out. I've got 10gal container I was thinking of using. I have 11 cakes and I think a couple might contam.
My questions are:

  • how often would I have to spray and fan?
  • Has anybody run into any contamination problems using this method?
  • What should I set the cakes on so they aren't directly touching the perlite.

Any other tips would be appreciated. Thanks

there is a simsple method with this so you wouldn't have too water. You get these things called "bubble wands" "bubble walls" "bubble bars" they are for aqariums.. i'll link you too a tek on it... PMP TEK

its what i'm using on my frist grow.. though.. haven't even inoculated yet.

ok a question, how BIG of a difference will it make between geolite and perlite?

imma go w/ perlite(they got it at lowes) and i know geolite is supposed to be better but how "worse" is perlite

perlite is cheap compared to geolite but geolite lasts forever.

Some say geolite doesnt wick well enough to give a high enough rh without air wands but my buddy has been using it and it works fine.

Thanks for everyones help so far. I still need to know how often do I need to fan. Also, would dripping be a problem since the top wouldn't be a dome?

I'm thinking of casing a couple of the jars using http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23805 method. I plan on using similar setup with that rubbermaid with perlite on the bottom and fan a couple times a day.
