conserving fresh mushrooms
    #3294611 - 10/29/04 04:41 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

Hello,

This question might be something for an other forum but I dont know which.

QUestion is simple: "How to conserve my fresh mushrooms for a month?"

Ive been reading some of the conserving teks but using freon and stuff I think is too much, isnt there an easier method like just put them in the freezer?

Tia,
MF

I don't think it's a good idea to try and keep them fresh for so long. Why would you want to do that anyway? If you must you could put them in honey....but I guess that would be pretty messy. You can PRESERVE fresh shrooms for a short period of time in a paper bag.

I have never heard of anyone freezing them...but as soon as I say that, someone will come along and say it's been done 1000 times.

Lol, if my yield is too high to trip on I might wanna conserve some.
I know I can dry them but fresh would be better!

Any other people who have suggestions?

Thanks,
MF

key word: fresh
the answer is no, you'd be well advised to dry them.

You could try vacuum packing them into a jar. Foodsaver sells both an attachment that will let you put something like mushrooms into a canning jar and they sell their own containers that you can hook their machine up to.

I recommend they be dried if they're not going to be consumed within a few days. After a couple of days fresh is not so fresh taste and texture wise IMO.

Dry them if your trying to PRESERVE them. Over a week and they probably will be rotten, and after a few days they probably won't be very tasty. You could also make them into something. Spegetti sauce, pizza, whatever.

If your trying to CONSERVE them then you should just eat less at a time, this will conserve them to make sure you have enough for later.

Conserve/Preserve [Re: zerozero]

Funny Conversation^^^^^ (In this order:)

MushroomFriend>> " QUestion is simple: "How to conserve my fresh mushrooms for a month?" "

Me>> "You can PRESERVE fresh shrooms..."

MushroomFriend>> "Lol, if my yield is too high to trip on I might wanna conserve some"

Scatman>>> "Dry them if your trying to PRESERVE them.....If your trying to CONSERVE them"

George>> "if you conserve too much. you wont get off very good! "

MushroomFriend>> "I will try conserving a few as an experiment though..."

Sometimes I wonder if it's even worth pointing out little things or helping anyone at all. It seem like people will come to whatever conclusion they want to.
