I want to move up to grain but my PC is to small for the tall jars to stand upright. Is there anything I can put under the jar so I can lay it on its side when PCing.

If you're just trying to keep your jar from touching the metal on the bottom you can use a small towel. Most PC's come with a canning rack. If your canning rack isn't far enough off the bottom you can make a few small foil balls to use as legs.

Mushroommike, if you are worried about water getting in the holes of your jars, perhaps you could try putting it in a pressure-cookable plastic bag? Be sure to put a cloth or something under the bag to prevent melting.

Ziplocks may work, but I'm not experienced with this technique, someone else able to chime in on this idea?

Foil has always worked fine for keeping water out of my jars while in the PC for me.

Here are some idea I have:

I am going to use a lid with a tyvek(I think its waterproof)filter, polyfill and two layers of foil when I PC.

Because the jar will not stand upright, I have to lay it on its side.

I want to put something between the rack and the horizontal jar, to raise the jar above the water level.

These steps should allow the jar to cook corectley without letting in any water. Please give me some feedback on this.
