quick question
    #3294796 - 10/29/04 07:59 PM (13 years, 25 days ago)

i covered my casing with al. foil before i put int in the bigger container to colonize. Is this unnecessary? i know that it needs to be enclosed so that the CO2 can buildup, but just wanted to know.

ps...done with first casing...excited as hell!

Foil is definitely needed.. you can also use seran/plastic wrap if your incubator is dark enough. Covering the top of the casing while incubating and waiting for myc to pop thru helps to keep out contams as well as restrict gas exchange for optimal vegetative growth just like you said...

You have been mis-informed =(

For one, you do NOT want to use plastic wrap. This will create a huge humidity dome in the casing. This is bad. For one, it will not allow any air exchange, which the casing needs. Two, the moisture will build up. High moisture content leads to contams. Specially cobweb, which is usually followed by green.

Using foil is what you are suppose to use. Gj.

I've used plastic wrap before without problems but I poked holes in the top all over with a fork to allow for gas exchange (not air exchange BTW..a little different..dont want air exhange while incubating..still waiting on the trigger until its fruited). I usually use foil though..a little easier and quicker when doing a few dozen casings at onces..
