overlay???

can someone post a picture of what overlay looks like? i went camping for 3 days and came back stunned by sight. i usually case via 50/50+, it takes about a 2 weeks for fruits to appear with that tek, this time i used straight jiffy mix, it colonized the casing almost completely with rhizos. in that 3 days... ive read up on deep scratching, if anything ill just have to do that... has anyone ever seen that quik of coloniaztion using jiffy mix? do you use it straight or mixed? i really dont want to deep scratch the casing, im going to stick it in the fridge first.... any comments? ...please none from you homographic...i've read to much crap from you....it makes me sick...

That's a tough question to answer without a picture. If the entire surface of the casing is covered with mycelia, it's fairly safe to say it's overlay.

If the mycelia is completely covering the casing material, it can still pin. Overlay is when the mycelia get matted down and gets that shiny plastic look. It gets so no pins can grow throgh it or from it. It's usually occurs from over misting/too much moisture.

i also thought it was when the casing substrate and mycelium pull away from the sides of ur casing container

The casing isnt matted down at all, just really thick rhizo "fingers" everywhere pointing up, does that help any?

I really believe it is the casing mix itself, (jiffy-mix) not retaining enough water, next time i will mix it with vermiculite. what do you say?
