A question about brithing
    #3292938 - 10/29/04 09:48 AM (12 years, 1 month ago)

After i shock n roll, let me make sure I get this right.

I place perlite in the bottem of the tub, get it moist, place a screen over the perlite, and place the cakes ontop of their alluminum (sp) lids from the glasses on the screen?

Thanks!

if you have a screen then no need for the lid.....just dont let the cake touch the perlite.

put 2 inches of perlite on the bottom and keep the water level about 3/4 to a full inch below the top of the perlite. then you can just set your cakes in the lids on top of the perlite or use aluminum foil, whatever. I've even seen people put it directly on the perlite... but that can lead to your myc trying to colonize and gives you more of a chance with a contam.

as for the water you put into the perlite, mix 10 parts water, 1 part h2o2... the h2o2 will keep the contaminates from taking over the perlite... but it degrades after a few days. I like to recharge my peroxide at least once a week with a few glugs of h2o2 right into the perlite.

The cake will also become saturated or waterlogged as it will keep soaking water up.
