wet rot?
    #3290797 - 10/28/04 08:09 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

Hi all-
I've seen the pics of wet spot (bacillus). I've been having a problem with it, i think, because some jars get a sick sweet smell, and look kind of wet, but i've never seen the white edging on any of the rice flour. Is there anythign else it could be?
To combat it, soak at room temprature before mixing it up? Does it matter that the rice expands?
How do i fix this?

I do not know which to prefer,
The beauty of inflections
Or the beauty of innuendoes,
The blackbird whistling
Or just after.

Rince your jars out with bleach or rubbing alchohol. If the bacteria is in the jars and not the substrait, this will kill the endospores.

Soak grain overnight for 24 hours then PC. Bascillus endospores can survive high temperatures. Soaking allows the endospores to activate, germinating into a form which heat will kill.
