It's another method of control by fear.

You've raped! I feel dirty
It hurt! As a child
Tied down! That's a good boy
And fucked! Your own child
I scream! No one hears me
It hurt! I'm not a liar
My God! Saw you watching
Mommy why?! Your own child -Korn

"an eye for an eye"
Punishment in which an offender suffers what the victim has suffered.

like revenge? "supporting and encouraging it" ??

i see alot of people use "an eye for an eye" in situations like war - which to me, it is meant to constrain violence because of the fact that both bodies would recieve a hit. i said support and encourage it because alot of people use that in support of violence because of their distorted view of religion.

According to the Bible (Romans ch13) these acts..."eye for an eye" are acts taken on by our governing powers. Not on a civilian level.
We as civilians are to leave vengance in Gods hands.
Since you are qouting scripture ("eye for an eye") I find it relevant to clear that up biblically.
Yeah it's about fear. But I don't find anything wrong with that. It's our God given nature to learn from fear.

And then, in the New Testament, Jesus, with his Christ Consciousness, denounced "eye for an eye", which was proposed in the Old Testament, as it was an ignorant philosophy for interacting with others. Jesus knew the greater power was in healing and sharing love and compassion, instead of spreading the ignorance and the negative actions, thereby making the world an even worse place.

One more example of Christians not understanding or following Jesus' teachings.

Didn't Jesus basically reverse the 'Eye for an eye' idea. He said somehting like, 'You have heard it said, and eye for an eye. But I tell you if you are struck on your left cheek, offer your right as well. If you are forced to walk on mile, walk two...'

I am talking about breaking the law here. The Bible does teach that we are to be subject
to authority. And that authority has the right to judge.

Otherwise we would have chaos.

Rom 13:1 Let every soul be subject to higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, but the existing authorities have been ordained by God.
Rom 13:2 So that the one resisting authority has opposed the ordinance of God, and the ones opposing will receive judgment to themselves.
Rom 13:3 For the rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the bad. And do you desire not to fear the authority? Do the good, and you will have praise from it;
Rom 13:4 for it is a servant of God to you for the good. But if you practice evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword in vain; for it is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to the one practicing bad things.
Rom 13:5 Because of this, it is necessary to be subject, not only on account of wrath, but also on account of conscience.

Mat 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law.

from Matthew:

38 "You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' 39But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. 40If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. 41And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. 42Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away."

"You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? 48Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect."

And the Bible's teachings aren't any more of an authority on anything than any other teaching is. What gives the Bible justification as the truth, as the word of God? Answer me this.

Also, how does one tell that an individual claiming to have been ordained by God and thereby having righteous authority really was ordained by God? Why would God meddle in our affairs?

Once again, Jesus himself denounced "an eye for an eye", as it is not a long-term solution to solving problems, in fact, in the long run, it only makes them worse.

My fuckin' god, I feel a headache coming on...

I can only answer you biblically Fireworks god, so there for we would go round and round all day.

Our conscious about right and wrong agrees with scripture.

Jcoke..."The whole council of God" means believing
Romans 13 1-5. You can't discount what it says. You have to read the entire bible and then dispute the cause. You can't pull out one piece of scripture when obviously there are scriptures that support punishment "by our authorities for wrong doing." Not ourselves.

I don't see God as having any desire to know itself or its Creation. God is silence, formlessness. His Creation is naturally born from this, and it is the Creation that may or may not desire to know itself and to know God. Form is born of formless, sound from silence, etc.

So Fireworks god?you are the authority on who and what God is. You know there are a lot of people from the bible who claim to have known Christ, and our documented ?actual people? but we are suppose to accept your take on who God is????

Hey Fireworks,

You said, "I don't see God as having any desire to know itself or its Creation. God is silence, formlessness. His Creation is naturally born from this, and it is the Creation that may or may not desire to know itself and to know God. Form is born of formless, sound from silence, etc." (or at least I think you said this, I got it from CER's post)

That's really brilliant, man! It helps me to deal with a problem that I have seen for a long time, namely...'Why would 'God' create but out of desire? And if 'God' created or made the first move out of desire, the implication is that the highest or ultimate or primordial state of consciousness is far less than perfect.

According to your idea, 'God', the pripordial consciousness did not create with intention but merely is the field upon which creation (filled with desire ) naturally springs forth. Right?

Good stuff, thanks Fireworks!

Hehe, you're welcome. Credit also goes to Skorp, who I was talking to when I made the original post with that in it (one of the two God threads that viaggo started).

And, ja, that is how I understand it. A new revelation for me, Skorpivo is the one who has been considering it for the past couple of weeks. Sound emerges from silence, movement emerges from stillness, etc. etc...

I wish I had more time, but I have to relinquish the helm of this computer to another, I will be back sometime later with a reply to CER. And I'll have Skorp check out this thread next time he is on...
