Are these in the Amanita family?
    #3290208 - 10/28/04 06:06 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

I found these in NW South Carolina growing individually under 2 big pine/spruce trees. I'm really new to this and just curious as to what they are. they have white gills as you can see in the pictures and I just picked them today so I'll take a spore print if needed. The stems are pretty solid and haven't bruised any color for about 2 hrs.

Thanks

Yes, they're not only in the Amanita family (Amanitaceae), but the genus Amanita as well. They appear to be one of the many varieties of Amanita muscaria.

Happy mushrooming!

Thanks guys. I dried these and a few more in the oven last night and steeped at 190 like the tek said then took approx. 5g to see what it was all about. Unfortunatly 2 hrs later I still didn't notice anything good or bad so I fell asleep. No dreams, or none remembered anyways. Should I wait a few days and try a larger dosage?

They look like Amanita Muscaria var. Formosa to me but you should have waited for a 100% I.D. first, nofind_um said they 'look' like Amanita Muscaria var. Formosa, and ToxicMan said they are one var. of the Amanitaceae genus. But if nout happened, beats me???
