For Bulk Growers
    #3290079 - 10/28/04 03:44 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

i have been growing bulk for a while and get variable yeilds, the reason i think my yields havent been as high as they could be is my timing of initiating the fruiting cycle... i let the mycelium come up through the casing layer on a few spots and the patch and fruit...i was wondering if u think i should patch it,then incubate a little more and then fruit..any thoughts ??

Right now i average about 2-3 ounce dry flushes, but i have heard as much as 10 oz dry on a single flush...my setup is 68 liter bins 5-6" deep 50/50 straw/poo fluorescent lights and cool mist humidifiers

any help appreciated P3K

Patching is covering the colonized parts so the uncolonized parts can catch up.

How exactly r you running your coolmist to your bins?

Homie always patches at least twice to get a evan col. of casing.

how big is 63 leters? Like 30 gallons, right?

I have a related question: for second flushes, do you incubate after patching?

i got 2 cool mist each is outputing 4 hoses to a total of 8 bins,i guess 68 liters would be close to 30 gallons or sumthin....

after the first flush i just pick em' carefully and repatch the spots with my casing layer, mist it,and wait for the next flush

No. The knots that turn into second flush pins usually start to form in the first flush. So just keep on fruiting it.

63 liters = 16.643 gallons
68 liters = 17.964 gallons

I really don't think patching can account for the difference in dry yeilds you mentioned. I think it probably has more to do with amount of nutrients, amount of available water, and substrate depth. Patch casing will produce a more even pinset and subsequently a bigger flush, but IMHO, it wouldn't produce any difference in overall dry yeild.

I dont understand how patching can improve yield.

When patching one creates uneven surface which I read is something one does not want?

its not uneven surfaces that we dont want. it's uneven mycelium growth. that's why we patch, so all the mycelium hits the fan at the same time which yields a great pinset, which yields tons of dried mushrooms.

Ofcourse! After I posted I though thmm maybe there is something innit.. :P

But its hard to guess how much you should patch, like the places where no mycelium can be seen one does not know how deep under the surface that is? So one does not know how thick layer to patch over the visible mycelium spots?

well if you make an even casing layer, you wont have this problem. but the mycelium that is behind shouldnt be that far behind. i just cover up the showing mycelium a little bit, nothing thick and it all catches up even.
