casing question
    #3289308 - 10/28/04 02:53 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

I got some plastic containers to make casings and they come with lids. Can I use the lids while in the incubator, or do you have to use foil?

foil, lids will seal the containers. you want air exchange.

You can probaly just put the lids on top without sealing them. It will allow air exchange and humidity buildup.

Some plastic containers don't have an airtight seal, for example the small shoebox size rubbermaid containers used for casings. However, foil is better since you can tuck in the foil all around the edges. You want the casing layer to be sheilded from direct contact with air to avoid contams. Foil-even when tucked in-provides enough gas exchange. You need very liitle.

if you completely cover the top of the casing container with foil, how would that allow air exchange?

Tin foil crumpled over the edge of the casing container doesn't seal it off completely. Even saran wrap doesn't seal it off, so there's still air exchange.
