Trying to pin a cake!
    #3289183 - 10/28/04 02:31 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

I hatched six cakes a few days ago. I dunk&rolled them too. I am just wondering when i should see pins. I was hoping on seeing some already. Its been 3-4 days since I D&R'd them. I have them in my pmp and am misting it too with water and h2o2. I do have a light on them for about ten hours a day. And the temp is 70 degrees. I am getting a little worried, but not much because I only hatched the cakes while waiting for my other jars to colonize that I will use with cases. But, this is my first growth and I'm wondering what i am doing wrong. Thanks for any help --Chinaboy

Yeah, 6 days isn't generally long enough. I just went through the same thing.

It took 2 weeks for me to see pins, but I think there were a few wasted days.. I thought my air pump was exchanging the air in my tub enough, but it was not. Fan fan fan!!!!!

Have you noticed any changes in mycelium.. Has it gotten fuzzy in places, or are there even little clumps (knots) of mycelium in spots?

Don't worry man, sounds like everything is good.

emerald, if it has gotten fuzzy or knotty, that is a good sign, right?

ChinaBoy, I don't know what others are doing that's causing a 2 week until pinning period, but I have pinning on average of 6 - 8 days. So just be patient, wait atleast another week and I'm sure you'll have signs of pinning.

I think people try too hard actually. Staying sterile is my only real guideline I follow. I fan once or twice a day, keep my temperatures ideal and give it light anywhere from 3 hours to 12 hours a day, usually up to 8 after it's started pinning.

Mine usually start showing signs of knotting by day 2 and by day 3 I have tons of little knots around the bottoms and top, by day 5 or 6 I usually have little brown spots that will become my caps forming, then it's all smooth sailing from there in.
