Casing today
    #3288971 - 10/28/04 01:40 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

Hi I have ever done a casing before, I have been looking at all the different types, I have also read alot of people saying how their casings become contaminated. I think I am about to try a pure verm casing with one cake, just to see what happens. I see other casings that have peat moss along with the verm. Like if I buy the peat moss is it really worth it? I really don't want to lose any cakes however I really also want to try a casing.
So is peat moss any good? should I not do the verm casing and do a 50/50 ?
pz and thanks

I think coir is better than peat.

If I'm not mistaken, it is the pH of the casing layer that invites contams or.. not.

Coir has a much higher pH by itself, so you won't need to add lime.

you should use coir/verm mixture for a casing layer. Also aim for 1in of crumbled cakes in your container.

straight verm will work or a casing also...

Peat has been a staple in many a casing mixtures (50/50+) and doesn't seem to be any more difficult than say a 60/40 or straight coir. Just buffer peat a bit.

I have had success with straight coir, straight verm and 60/40. Best results were with a 70/30 mix, actually.

Gonna try 50/50+ and see what happens.

My advice is to try all of the various mixes and decide which is better for you and your style of cultivation.

Cheers! :spliff:
