Syringe Sterilizing

Is it reccomended at all to use a ordinary lighter for flame sterylizing my syringes? or do I need to pick up an alcohol lamp to get that clean burn. I'm sure aquiring an alcohol lamp wouldn't be too much of a problem but lighters are a lot easier to come by.

Use the torch kind if you want to use a lighter. It'll heat things up quicker. No harm in using a lighter.. just bit of carbon build up on the needle.

Use a torch-style lighter, or a propane torch. That's what I use, and a canister or propane will last for years(just sterilizing needles anyway).

an alcohol burner won't form carbon, which is a big advantage. an homemade alcohol burner is easy to make: take a small glass jar with a metal lid, make a hole in the center of the lid, cut a piece of lace and pass it through the lid. put some alcohol in the jar and you have an alcohol lamp. i can provide a pic if you want, bye

I'll go with the lightro plan then. Just wanted to make sure that black residue wasn't going to screw things up. Thanks for all the help.

Exactly After you get the needle red hot, wipe it with a wet tissue of isopropyl rubbing alcohol too cool it and rub off the sut. It'd also an extra safety measure.

H2o2 would work as well, but alcohol is much faster on killing anything on the needle.

So I could just soak the needle in some alcohol and avoid the whole heating plan?

No, heat it as well, but you can wipe the black carbon build up off the needle with alcohol or H2o2. Always flame sterilize!

Wiping it off afterwards is more or less to remove the soot and cool the needle so it doesnt destroy your spores, do both.
