First signs of pinning?(pic)
    #3285901 - 10/27/04 06:02 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

First timer here, these casings have been in the terrarium for 6 days now, and after the myc grew these sharp upward spiky protrusions through the casing layer, these small white balls are forming all over the casing... is this what early pinning looks like?

I see a lot of water droplets. Try fanning a little more and misting lighter. Good Luck.

Hehe. This is what happens when you overmist...

That isn't a bad thing though, it is Sam? For a cake, at least.

I harvested my first flush today, and my cakes were VERY dry.. :frown: So I've stepped up the misting a bit.. Hopefully a nice long dunk will bring them back to.. fruition.

no, not a bad thing. It just wants to grow more. Takes a bit longer to fruit if you get your cakes to look like the one I have. And, boy, isn't is ugly?

my casing is doing that all over (edit: looks like the pic sam posted), and i can't figure out what the hell is goin on cause i haven't misted it for over a week... is there anything else that can cause it to keep tryin to grow out?

this is my 4th grow, and i've never had this happen w/my casings b4, they've alaways just started pinning right around 2 weeks.

My cakes were doing that, too, although not quite as intense as Sam's, until I started fanning. That really seemed to trigger fruiting.

On cakes it is.  That just means it's still changing from vegetative growth to generative...  On cakes, coldshocking is basically stop almost all growth.  There would be some growth on cakes, but nothing like what you see in the picture.  Don't worry about that stuff on the casing.  It's perfectly fine.(well, unless there is 1/2" layer of that stuff).

Generally, on cakes, I get those rhyzomorphic(sorry..bad spelling) growth on the bottom and top near wet verm.  It doesn't happen often in the middle except when I mist too heavy.

Anyways...  no worries on casing peeps.  laugh a lot on cakes.

I recognized the overhumidity, and have increased fannings and cut the humidifier until it dries out some....

i'm pretty sure i figured out my problem... I was using a new light this time around and it was HOT AS HELL... The light raised the temps to like 85 degrees, so i'm pretty sure that was my problem. I'm goin to pick up a florecent light in the morning so hopefully that solves the problem.

yep, temps that high will keep it from fruiting.. i keep my fruiting chamber between 72-78 at all times.

your top picture looks like you're misting too heavily.

those things aren't knots, they're just rhyzos growing in the air.. happens to my casings aa little bit. knots look kind of like (i didn't come up with this, but it's an accurate description) little white nerds candy. kind of like little styrofoam balls at first, tiny and then they get bigger...

First time grower here. I've got the same little white dots all over the place. Is that the first sign of fruiting?
