60/40 coir casing question
    #3286333 - 10/27/04 09:25 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

ok i am going to be using coir and vermiculite for my casing substrate and i got a couple questions
1)should i use a bottom layer of that, straight verm, perlite, or nothing?
2)about how deep do i want the substrate?
3)back in the incubator for how many days?
thanks

1) choose one. I don't think it makes much difference.
2) about 1.5" is good.
3) there is a bit of difference in my personal perference here than others. We all incubate for about 3-4 days and patch the really aggressive growth if necessary.
After that is where difference comes in. Hyphae and other pros put that in the fruiting chamber and initiate fruiting. The growth momentum carries them and see pins in about a week.
I personally like more control over evenness of growth and put it back in the incubator for 24 hours and repatch as necessary. Then I coldshock before putting it in the PMP.

I would suggest you stick with pros, eventhough I think the result is same either way.

Sam
