Stopping Colonization
    #3285952 - 10/27/04 06:11 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

I'm not sure but I might have to go somewhere for a few weeks.

I inoculated my jars 2 weeks ago today and so growth has been going really good so far. I have 6 of the jars in a heated room and the mycelium has reached the bottom of the jars already. It looks like a couple of them have shrunk just a little they now can shake the jars. I have 5 more in a cooler room and the mycelium just isn't as thick or as spread out.

Now to my question is there a way to slow or stop colonization till I get back, or should I just throw them out and start over later?

Don't throw them out.  Just keep them in the really dark place for now.  You might have some mushrooms growing in them when you come back...  Or you might not.  Just keep them really really dark and room temp.  Remember it takes a whole month or more for some people to finish their jars

Put them in the fridge.

Right?

I've still got awhile for them to finish. I was thinking of putting them in the fridge. If I came back and mushrooms were growing in it would that be a bad thing?
