Oyster extravaganza!!
    #3281298 - 10/26/04 07:54 PM (19 years, 3 months ago)

Found another fine crop of oysters growing from a dead tree...

I'm preparing these with some rice and beef right now...

I think now's as good a time as any to bring this up:

Are their any oyster look-a-likes that are dangerous to eat? :argh:

Yummmy. I love oysters.

I like to sautee them in butter in garlic, and serve in a chowder or cream of mushroom soup.

There are no toxic look-a-likes. There are several similar mushrooms you wouldn't want to eat.

Phyllotopsis nidulans has a fuzzy cap, pinkish spore print, and unpleasant odor.

The inedible similar Lentinus and Lentinellus species have serrated gills, where Pleurotus (Oysters) have smooth gill edges.

Crepidotus species are smaller, thin fleshed, and have brownish spore prints.

Happy mushrooming!

Thanks for the compliments...

Like I said, I had some with beef and fried rice and an eggroll on the side, it was good!
