""How does the war on drugs protect anyone? ""

it protect the people against drugs, against drugs?

protection is a egoistic action? yet the mother of all not-egoistic actions?

Protection should never include persecution.

Protection in the case of drugs would involve proper education, and this isn't like a drug user cliche. People are going to use drugs even if they are illegal. The "evil" you saw from their use probably occured while they were illegal, and thus this did nothing to stop it. Really, a hammer to the side of my head could be considered "evil", but rather than hunt down hammer owners, it is common sense to use them for nails.

We should shift focus from fear and prosecution to compassion and education.

How does the war on drugs protect anyone?

I believe dealers, smugglers, etc. should be prosecuted by the law. As for users, I believe they should be fined. A population needs to protected. It's the duty of a government. Drug laws are not perfect. Locking up addicts is not the solution. Legalizing what the addict is addicted to so he can pick it up along with the newspaper is not the solution either. I don't even believe psychedelics should be legalized either, and I am an advocate of the introspective wisdom that psychedelics can bring. I believe the Law serves a purpose to protect the masses.

Chowing down a Bacon Double Cheese Burger is a poor comparison to someone taking a hit of crack cocaine, or ripping up their veins with heroin. You don't fiscally hit rock bottom by eating at McDonald's. You don't catch hep B or HIV by eating at Burger King.

"A population needs to protected. It's the duty of a government."

The population IS the government. It's just people, not some external protective entity.

"Chowing down a Bacon Double Cheese Burger is a poor comparison to someone taking a hit of crack cocaine, or ripping up their veins with heroin. You don't fiscally hit rock bottom by eating at McDonald's. You don't catch hep B or HIV by eating at Burger King."

If drugs were regulated they would be both much cheaper and much cleaner. This would solve both of these problems.

And I wouldn't be so sure about catching Hep B at Burger King

Much cheaper as in more for your buck?

There are some stupid people out there who would be like lab rats in a food/dopamine stimulant experiment.

Apples and Oranges. You cannot possibly compare junk food to a mutated stimulant designed to work the shit out of your dopamine whilst destroying everything in its path.
