Dreadlocks
    #3285801 - 10/27/04 07:44 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

I was just wondering if anyone else out there has dreads(and would like to share a picture?). Mine will be one year old on halloween. I dont have a picture of them online right now but when I get one I will post it. Im posting this in S/P because Ive found that the process of growing dreads is very symbolic and is almost like a spiritual journey. My hair was very straight and oily to begin with so it was very difficult to dread up, and for the first few months it looked really bad, which I think helped me realized that appearence is very trivial...

But it seemed like too much of a hassle

I had em for a year or so. Took almost a year to dread up since I tried the most natural technique possible. Meaning dung and mud packs wraped in bannana leaves. I got to say they turned out like golden turds, the most beautiful dreads I ever admired.

Ok well um I didnt do that im a lier! But I did have dreads and I did like em. But if you want some punany other then from a furry woman, dreads arnt the way to go. The night I cut em off I hooked up. So looks are not so trivial its human nature imo.

I grew my hair out with intent to get dreads, but never did. My hair is relatively straight, but has a decent amount of wave to it.. none the less, I was fairly concerned that it would be too difficult.

I still may do it someday.. my hair's down to about mid-back now. Odds are I will eventually just cut it off before I ever get myself to dread it, though.

You just gotta find a job that doesn't care about what you look like.. heh.. I happen to have one of those, so maybe I should take advantage of that and try the dreadlocks...

yeah its a bitch how you have to conform to societys hair expectations to get pussy and work.

Never been exactly sure what the symbolism of dreads are. I guess its just a fuck your standards ill do what i want kind of thing. Ive seen some amazing dreads and some terrible ones.

personally i dont think id rock the dreads, i love showers to much, I had a girlfriend with dreads once though and they smelled like my dad's body odour, and what was really gross was that i started liking it, and id be playing tennis with my dad and smell his bo and be like damn that reminds me or robin. And then i told robin that once, i dunno i guess i thought it was romantic or something, and she was all offended, but girl, your hair smells like crap.

:crazy2:

i have had dreads for over 4 years now. in the initial stages, it took about 1 year to dread naturally. I have curly hair though. didnt know how to do so just didnt wash my hair for a long period(this was in high skool and I was getting a lot of shit from classmates)
I'm happy with them now

Yeah mine still dont look very good yet and its been a year, but they are definatly improving overtime. and about washing them and the smell, i wash them 3 times a week (the trick is that you have to use a shampoo that doesnt leave residue in your hair, i use dr bronners organic liquid soap) and you can make mixes with essential oils, water and sea salt to make them smell nice...i originally backcombed my hair when it was about 8 inches long, but i did a terrible job and they fell apart almost completly, which i dont mind so much because ever since ive been goin natural and it is a slow process but i like the way it looked apposed to backcombing
