syringe problem, help!!!
    #3283573 - 10/27/04 11:40 AM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Houston, weve got a problem. My friend called me this morning in shock. He woke up and checked on his jars, they look good by the way. He planned to inoculate them tonight. This is where we got the problem. He pressure cooked his syringes and then used a common syringe tek that he has used with new syringes quite frequently. However, this is the first time with syringes that have been pressure cooked. When he checked them, he found that 7ccs of liquid had been lost. Somehow it leaked out through the night. He now only has 3 cc's in each syringe. A total of 9 cc's. While the remaining is extremely dark, it will have to do. But does anyone know what happened? Has this ever happened to anyone before???

Why is he putting syringes in the pressure cooker that still have spores in it?

LOL, when you pressure cook the syringes the volume is expandin so leaking into the pan.. So less volume left after you cooked them!

Not to mention now you have sterile syringes!"

LOL I thought I was the n00b here!

Wish your friend good luck,

MF

PS: I notice a lot of of "friends" here! Like "my friend has a pmp with..." S omany friends without internet or is it something else? Like "My friend has herpes are there anonymous medicines available for him? "

More like, my friend doesn't want to fully incriminate himself on a PUBLIC message board.

It's not entirely stupid, especially for certain individuals. For many it just isn't a big deal though

Lol no not stupid, I was thinking since growing mushrooms might be illegal in some countries that people act as if it is about a friend while in the meantime it is their own mushroom garden...

NO, you all got me wrong, he pressure cooked the syringes with water in them, then put the spores in using a print!!!

were they not cooled all the way? you say the syringe is dark. Is it darker than before the amazing water disappearing act? As in, the spore solution is more concentrated? If so, why not just add more sterilized water? I still have no idea how it happened, unless theres a leak or the plunger was pressed.

I guess I'm just getting completely confused by the original post.

Quote:

When he checked them, he found that 7ccs of liquid had been lost. Somehow it leaked out through the night. He now only has 3 cc's in each syringe. A total of 9 cc's. While the remaining is extremely dark, it will have to do. But does anyone know what happened? Has this ever happened to anyone before???

When he checked them? You mean when he checked the water that was put in them in the pressure cooker to sterilize it before the print?

If so, why does he only have 3 ccs of water in the syringe? Didn't he empty that water out and use other sterile water to mix with his print to make a syringe? Why would he use the 3 ccs that were left..

I just don't understand the logic here or I'm misinterpretting information.

Basically he is saying that somehow his spore syringe leak. Ignore all the PC stuff.

I have no idea. If your syringe isn't air tight, it will leak. Maybe the PC damaged the plunger?

here was the procedure, he loaded the syringes with presteralized water and then loaded them into a jar and into the pressure cooker, cooked them and a shot glass then waited for them to cool, then made the syringes with a print. then they were left to rehydrate, the spores, and in the morning, the water leaked out...

Tell your friend to use the left over water and grow the mushrooms to make syringes again.

It sounds like the syringes got pressed somehow.

Ok, I see.

Is it possible that the pressure cooker dried out the rubber seal inside the syringe?

I think it's safe to assume that something to do with the pressure cooker hurt the syringes regardless of whether it's the plunger or not. I'd just buy a couple new syringes I spose' in this case.

I dont think that the plungers were dried out because there was water in the syringes while in the pressure cooker, I think that maybe it leaked where they attatch to the actual needle. He is just worried about how sterile they will be now with all of the air that has sucked into them as a result of the lost water...
