You should cover the sides with duct tape, or something that won't let the light through. Those might end up aborting and molding, contaming the rest of the casing. Might be fine though, I'm not sure

DNKYD is right, Definately should have taped or used something to block light from the sides. I would pick those off and then tape the sides so that they'll only pin on the top. Best of luck.

if they won't grow and reach the surface, then you should put the casing out of the tray and use it as a big cake so you can harvest these guys or else they can rot and contaminate the whole casing

Hamurabi's suggestion of using the casing as a big cake would work. If you still want to use it as a casing though, You could find a clean flat surface to put on top of the casing, turn it upside down to remove it from the container. Might have to tap it a little. But once it's out, just remove the pins from the casing and return the casing to it's container by placing the container back over it and flipping it back to normal. This shouldn't damage the casing. It's the same as harvesting and picking aborts off as you normally would with the exception that these are on the sides and you'd need to remove it to get to them.

If you've got some coming up on top already then I would wait it out. You shouldn't have to worry about removing those pins on the sides until they start to turn black. You just don't want them to rot and cause contamination.

I can't give a definite time. Just keep a constant eye on them and your casing should be fine. Atleast you won't have to worry about making the same mistake in the future.

Leave them as is..they happen all the time. They'll mostly grow up. Some wont. When you harvest your flush..take off all the top ones then either use tweazers to get the ones in the side or lift it up or flip it out and pick them all off.

I have like 50 very tiny pinheads just starting on the top now though. Will it hurt them to lay it down on something? I just dont want to ruin them.
