I actually first spotted the brown mushroom next to a pipe, not a drainage pipe, but one you would see sticking out of somebody's lawn that usually has a punctured lid on it (with holes all over it).
This was on my neighbor's lawn, actually, and in between yesterday and today they shrunk down quite a bit, or perhaps some fell over.
They were hidden among dead leaves and wood chips, same as the whiter one.
I live in Buffalo, NY, where it has been mild the past few days, mid 50s, and very sunny today.
I will be making a spore print now, but thought I'd post the pictures in case anybody had seen these before.
the brown one is dark at the apex of it's cap at a small point, and then lighter brown surrounds the point and is a little more sparse as it reaches into another darker area that circles the cone...kind of like an octopus was holding onto it, and it's legs came down around the wider part of the cap, revealing the darker brown that covers the bottom of the cap.
I can't believe I didn't get a picture of that instead of describing octopi.....
