If you're leaving them outside, be sure to place a carbage bag over them to prevent any future raining from hitting it.

actually somehow the sun blasted through and is going strong now, i think i should let it get as much light possible now, and if it rains i'll cover it...what about a few small pots of p. torch that the soil is drenched, should i attempt to speed up the water absorption ? if so how , maybe set them in direct sun as much as possible?

Yep me too, i would cut it above the rotted part and re-root it before it spreads. Obviously making sure the cutting is completely free of black stuff.
If the root by any chance overcomes the rot, it'll put out pups in the spring.

Putting the Torch's in a place higher off the ground were there is more wind and alot of sun will greatly help them dry alot faster.

There was something I've been thinking of trying. If someone decides to try it, snap some pics and share with us.
My idea was to plant torches and pedros outside like one would plant strawberries, that is plant them on a raised mound for maximum drainage.

This summer we got more rain than I've seen in a long time. We had a month of rain every single day and a month with about 25 days of rain. My pedros did fine both in pots and in the ground. I think they tollerate a lot more rain than people give them credit for. Are you sure your pedros are rotted? Black spots on them are not uncommon and don't mean much. Rot is where the flesh gets soft and squishy. A few small spots is no big deal.

I would not cut out the black spots unless they were soft. Firm black spots are normal.

i tried it with some taller cereus a couple years ago. it was a failure so i brought inside. it worked goo but you really got to stake them up damn good. their roots take a while to sink in and they just fell right over. i eventually used those round metal things that are used for keeping deer out of tomatoes and such, but then i just brought em in. it seemed to solve the problem.

Stoney is right, my pedro soil never completely dries out. As long as the soil is pourous enough that the roots can breath they should be ok. I think T. Bridgesii is slightly less water tolerant. Pedro get all manner of weird spots and lessions, but as long as they are firm its ok.

You can place plastic sheeting over the ground around your cacti to encourage the rain water to run off and away from the rootzone of the cactus.

my pedros never have had black spots and just chill during rainy seasons, and i live in a very shaded area, they are still tall and healthy and grow just the same... i think you just need to chill and let them do their thing, if the skin starts getting mushy cut it off above the infectious crap and replant it. enough said.

I have found that even soft black spots will heal as long as they are no larger than 1" dia...these things can handle a lot of water and moderately cool weather.
