Give this I.D. a shot!

I found some newbies in my yard today and here they are

The darker mushie was by itself and resembled what I think a portabella would look like. The others were pure white including the veins. They're beautifull so I just wondered if anyone had an idea what they are.

By the way they were found in the great lakes area.

Thanks for any input!!!!!!

Do a spore print to narrow down the genus before they become to dry. Then right up a proper i.d. as explained in the faq, this will help your mushrooms be ided much more quickly.

Do what Sweetleaf said. And also next time copy the text in that little box into your post to make a thumbnail, like this:

Thanx... I've been trying to figure out how you get those thumbnails looking so good!

That's better

The ones with white gills appear to be Destroying Angels, Amanita virosa. They are deadly.

The one with pinkish brown gills is some species of the genus Agaricus. Agaricus is difficult to Id to species. Some are edible and some are poisonous; none are active. Post all the requested info for ID, including habitat, smell, and bruising color.

Here's more info:

the whites have a white spore print
the darker one has a dark brown print

The whites were 2" to 2 1/2" wide on the cap and 2" high stem
The dark was 3" to 4" wide on the cap and 2" or less on stem

they were both found in grass in the open

they both had little bruising occur (just a darker shade of their original color)

Light mushroom smell if any.

We had a moist and unsually warm day which resulted in new growth

Good to know that the whites may be deadly (kind of exciting) I'd never eat anything from my area since we don't have much more than morels up here in michigan. I think it's really neat to see what you guys come up with for names however. Your knowledge must be vast. I give you a bow. Thanks for anymore input!!

Alexander Smith was from Michigan, so Michigan is one of the best studied areas of the US. There are *lots* of edible mushrooms up there other than morels. Go to the library and check out one of his books.

Happy mushrooming!
