I've never heard of one negative effect mushrooms have on the body.

I've never heard of any, although I don't think any long term study has been made. I have seen a few anti-drug propaganda site attribute all kinds of nasty things (it causes your brain/spinal cord to bleed, it causes permanent psychosis etc) to them but those should be taken with a very large grain of salt...

mushrooms are incredibly benign. that stuff about spinal fluid is bogus.
there are no physical dangers i am aware of. the only real dangers are the possibility of a traumatic experience or a dangerous 'episode' while on mushrooms. the physical action of the drug in the body is quite benign.
