Is cold shocking necessary? I understand that some strains respond well. Sorry if this seems like a stupid question.

Cold shocking is basically just a sure-fire way to make sure your mycelium knows that the temperature is dropping and it triggers it to say "Oh it's time to start making mushrooms?"

I personally think all CAKES should be dunked and cold shocked regardless of your temperatures etc, but casings that's up to the person who is fruiting it.

i will be working with casings. as i understand it, the cake or casing would be placed in near 0C temps for 12-24 hours. is this correct?
