What do you mean it is loud as hell? Is it loud when it is reading and writing data? what hard drive do you have right now?

I've got 3 western digital caviar drives, and they are quiet. the computer is sitting under my desk and I can't hear the reading and writing unless I put my head within 2 feet of the computer. The case fan in my computer is louder than the hard drive, and its a dell 8100.

I have a 10,000rpm drive so I know how that is. I just got used to it though.

I use a Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM drive - supposed to be quieter than the WD drives. Also, I use an Antec Sonata case that has rubber mounting points for the drive, which also reduces noise.

Not that it's silent, but it's quieter than any other computer I've used recently.
