Why would terrorists want to influence the election?

There has been plenty of argument as to who terrorists want to win the election, and I have my own opinion on that, but I think it doesn't matter who wins so long as the attack is carried out. Consider, the election is going to extremely close as it is, so if terrorists attack whoever loses the election can say terrorists elected the winner. That way whoever wins will ultimately be undermined and legitmacy of the presidency will be called into question. Seeing how it was for years ago, and that the post election legal battles will be even worse this time around, a terrorist attack will throw the country deeper into chaos and rancor over the elections. Because the vote count will be so close it would be easy to see a large portion of the electorate believing their candidate really won (like Al Gore), throwing in the terrorist factor would make the outcome of the election more disputed for the next 4 years. Americans would be demoralized believing that terrorists were able to have such a profound impact on our way of life and government.

You guys still don't realize that 9-11 was a freak act of luck. Get on with your lives already, you've been letting the "terrorists win" for the past 3 years now.

This is right on.
I'm sure high level terrorists could give a fuck less about our election.

I don't think there will be an attack either. I think they are concentrating just about all their resources in Iraq. I couldn't believe that Athens didn't get his during the Olympics. Gives some credence to the theory of "Rather fight them there than here".
If there is an attack I think it would hurt Kerry. I don't think that people would want to vote against Bush if they thought that is what the terrorists wanted.

Perhaps a slightly more fitting question could be: Who would want the terrorists to go ahead and influence the elections?

do you really believe Al Qaeda and others have moved en masse to Iraq? I would say that some have, but many more havent nor would they want to.

I think that people have been flowing over the boarders. Many Al Qaeda have not, seeing that they are either dead or holed up in caves in East Buttfuck.
