Pin growth
    #3260064 - 10/21/04 10:41 AM (19 years, 3 months ago)

All of you who saw my previous post may remember my problem of unable to get them to pin. If not, I have two BRF cakes inoculated with GT strain from the FSRE. Today they began To in when i woke up one had 2 pins and the other had 4, i came back 4 hours later and each of the two cakes have 8-10 pins with brown spots (i guess these will become caps). My new question is two those who have had success with the golden teachers. On average how long does it take a GT to pin compared to other cubensis strains.

The majority of the pins are coming from the bottom edge of the cakes and the top corners. Is the common?

Ill post again here in a day or so with pictures. A Friend is currently borrowing my digital camera.

It is very common for them to pin where they are pinning.

I'm not familiar with Golden Teacher enough to tell you if they are like the other strains of cubensis. I imagine they are, but that's just my guess.

Hey! Congrats!

On GT casings, it took about 6 days adn 8 days to pin, and on GT cakes, 2 days.

Casing quickly caught up though once they started to grow. Ones on the cakes were a bit slower to grow once pins were set.

When i did my research, I heard they pin about the same time as others, about 4-14 days. But the timeline question is a very hard one to answer because of so many factors involved, such as dunk or not, coldshock or not, thickness of casing, what kind of casing, humidity, temperature, amount of air flow, etc...

I guess what I'm trying to say is, do what you can to meet the ideal conditions and just go with it. If you are not happy with it or you are really shooting for the best, improve your setup to meet maximum ideal condition. I'm happier with my GT than BU if you want to hear what I feel about the strain. But most of that came from better growth parameters for GT.

Good luck!

Sam

Holy Shit and forth came the pins. These things are popping pins up like crazy one of my cake has over 30 visible pins starting and on the bottom there is a circus of pins.

Is pin growth on the underside of cakes normal? Harmful? Wonderful?

Took me a while to get my GT casings to pin. Over two weeks..twice any other strain in the same closet..
