    #3272289 - 10/24/04 07:07 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Hello people,

Since english is not my native language I have some questions about the casing mix.

What is (the difference between):
- coco coir
- coco peat
- moss peat

I dont know the meaning of the words "coir" and "peat".

Anyone can help me out? Cause here i found coco peat if that is sutable for casing ill use that when I start growing.

TIA!

coco peat os a good alternative for peat moss when growing plants because its contains thing naturally that prevents fungi growth. but i dont know if that makes it unusable for casing material

\Coir\ (koir), n. [Tamil kayiru.] 1. A material for cordage, matting, etc., consisting of the prepared fiber of the outer husk of the cocoanut. --Homans.

Peat moss. (a) The plants which, when decomposed, become peat. (b) A fen producing peat. (c) (Bot.) Moss of the genus Sphagnum, which often grows abundantly in boggy or peaty places.

if so it should do the trick
coco coir is shredded coconut husks, and coco peat is just a brand name of the product
peat moss is a mixture of sphagnum moss from swampy regions

I have not seen the product. I am calculating costs and am looking up prizes of Geolite and casingmix ingredients. Just the coco stuff I dont really get.

The growshop im currently looking in has:
Canna coco slab (which says it is like squeezed coco)
Coco brick
Canna coco speat

And a bag of "coco"ready 4 use:
coco

Which one is suitable for me?

Do the coco shuffle!

Thanks 4 ur help once more!

go for the brick, it will be smaller and probably cheeper for shipping. It expands like 9 times its sized when you add water. You can just cut off chunks and rehydrate them as you need them. Makes way more than you think. good luck on your casings, I hope they fruit plentifully

50 liter Geolite cost less then ?8.. :p Me happy!

Thank you!
