That would be amusing. A pumpkin should be sterile inside, right? What if you just injected some spores in there, and then opened it up after a couple of weeks? Maybe you would have fully colonized pumpkin guts.

aHahahaha that would be sweet, someone should give it a try.
maybe if i get bored I will do it with a liquid EQ shot.
I dunno how sterile it will be in there though.....
But if it all colonized and started fruiting that would make quite the Halloween display!!!

Even an unopened pumkin rots, ever buy one and let it sit, it gets all green and mushy from the inside out. I'll bet that it will get contamed and might possibly already be contamed. But try it out and get back to us. What the hell, it cant hurt, its just another experiment.

I bought a mini pumpkin. When my karo jars are done, I'll shoot it up. Yeah, pumpkin pH is around 5.0... so that kinda sucks.

lol... my sister took my nephew to a pumpkin patch yesterday and brought us a pumpkin. The first thing I thought was, "I wonder if you could fruit mushrooms off of that."

My thought is that a large pumpkin's guts would be better because they'd have a more airy environment... but then again it's more to try and colonize before the thing died.
What do the insides of the mini pumpkins look like?
I think if you swabbed with alcohol, injected, and covered with a band-aid like you do with jars... it might keep it from contaming due to the inoculation... but would the mycelium grow?
I think Karo/Honey tek is a MUST with this experiment because of the nature of the material to be grown on.
Just my $.02
