Straw ? Describe this for me please

Could some floks give a description of the proper moisture content of wheat straw. I assume it should not feel freely wet in your hands. just moist. I think my friends hay is too wet. the myc in not very fluffy or dense on the straw. The straw I think is too wet...

my lizard lets his straw drain basically overnight before use, and the moisture content is just right...

The straw should be tender and moist, but no water should seep out whe it is squeezed.
