Slow Colonisation
    #3270064 - 10/24/04 03:01 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I have some peroxide treated fir sawdust spawn jars colonising rather slowly (3 of the jars have around a cup full of sawdust in them 1 has 3 cups)(inoculated with peroxide agar). It has been 16 days but none of them are anywhere near finished colonising. My question is how long should oyster mushroom mycelium take to colonise such a small amount of subtrate?

Seems to be too long. Have you got any contams ?
Maybe the mycelium is not used to the peroxide or the strain does not like unsupplemented fir sawdust as a substrate ?

Sorry should have mentioned that the fir sawdust is supplemented. It is a mixture of fir sawdust, milk powder, ground limestone and gypsum. The agar wedge I used had been grown on peroxide agar beforehand. There are no visible contams.

Sorry, I have no pics. If I could take some pictures the mycelium would appear as a bunch of small to large dark spots in the sawdust, with some roundish patchs of white mycelium at the surface. The largest jar has double as many patchs as the smaller jars, but I used 2 wedges to inoculate it. I shook all the jars twice.
