popcorn Q
    #3269459 - 10/23/04 11:39 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

Ive always used the PC hydration method for popcorn, before PC'ing the jars

now if i soaked for 24 hours and let the nastys germinate and then PChydrate the corn , will the water content be better or worse? i no the popcorn will be free of contams using both and then pcing jars

would this be good or not worth it.
im not interested in saving time i rely on stock markets for income
witch doesnt require much effort

sounds like you do a double-pc manoevre, which is new to me, but if your method works, don't change it.

every grain is different, some are more prone to contams and some more prone to drying out. the only way to tell better and worse in in the result - how fast does it colonise, and how often does it contam.

my method for all grains is soak (to hatch endospores), rinse, simmer (to hydrate), rinse, drain well, load jars, add a bit of gypsum and shake (to make the colonised jars easy to knock into a pourable spawn), and fill the pressure cooker.

the only trouble with popcorn is that the kernels are so damn big. for the same jar volume of millet or birdseed, you get loads more inoculation points, speeding the process up. speedier colonisation = less contamination.

 :tongue2:
