Blue spots???
    #3268219 - 10/23/04 02:47 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

Ok guys Im freaking out.. I have blue looking spots starting to grow on my cakes that are in a perlite bin. Is this contam?? the perlite does not have a bubbler setup and I fan 3X a day. is this a contam from fanning?? What should I do?? Should I quarentine the cake?? How should I prepare before I fan??

Also my perlite is turning yellow in some spots, is this why my cakes has contam on it??

Don't confuse the bluing reaction from normal handling aka bruising, with contam. The yellow could be mycelium excrement or contam. How does the chamber smell? Pics?

Pics would be most helpful. Perlite doesn't need a bubbler. What does the yellow spots on the perlite look like to you? Does it LOOK like contam? How long has the perlite been wet? Did you add any h2o2 (peroxide)??

I add H202 regularly it smells like h202 in there. THe cakes are on foil thats on perlite.

Tell me more about this bluing reaction.
I think it might be that. Also I havent handled them.

cakes bruise like people. if they get bumped around they get blue. After harvest they usually start to blue a bit as well. Im not sure of the exact reason for the reaction, but its normal and not harmful. The color is usually close to aqua-bluish.

also slow down on the H2O2, sounds like your using it a bit excesively if it smells that strongly.

the bluing is caused by the oxidation of the pysilos (magic going bye bye)

It was just a pin dot sized spot of blue.

Is it possible you harvested recently and where you harvested from is bruising?  This is perfectly normal, ususally for me it means the fruit that was there was pretty strong.  :mushroom2:
