Outdoor patches. Dangerous contamination possible??
    #3267804 - 10/23/04 02:51 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

If one were doing an outdoor patch say in a flower bed, that might be covered in leaves and surrounded by mulch, would they be right in worrying about dangerous contaminations?

From what i've read, there isn't much danger at all from outside patches. Seems that the neutrients in the ground and the steady flow of air outside clears contaminations away. This is why people use their spent or contamned jars/casings outside and they can come back anew. Correct me if i'm wrong.

It's possible but not so probable. Organism are stronger on their natural habitat.
Although most commercial species are domesticated and can be grown indoors, i believe mycelium will grow stronger and will have a better&natural resistance to contamination if it goes outdoors.

Of course the process can fail, but making a good outdoor bed can be a bit more complicated than throwing jars inside a hole . Also the kind of contaminant and the extension of the contamination play an important role in the whole process.
