Grrr... My hygrometer died.

Caliber II. Accurate as hell, but the stupid thing only lasted like 3 weeks. Segments on the LCD are no longer lighting.

It's supposed to have a 5 year warranty, so we'll see about that.. but can someone recommend me a replacement that like, won't die?

:mad2:  :mad2:

Oregon Scientific, around $35 from Target. The temp. is more accurate (apparently) than my AC thermostat and when I used the salt RH calibration technique it was a perfect 75%.

Sorry derx. Worked great for me for 3 months, was worth the 20 bucks -shrug- It started fading out. Moving it around seemed to make it worse. Try just not leaving it in your chamber all the time. Once you get your temp and rh set, remove it and stick it in your room somewhere. It will last like that. Its just the really high humidity made it fade out little by little and I had to tap it to get it to come back on then it just stopped comming back on.

I wonder what causes it? I mean.. obviously the humidity, but I wonder what is happening inside to cause it to do that. Some kind of salt buildup shorting things out?

If I can't get any warranty service, I'll open it up and see if I can find anything. Maybe it just needs to be washed in de-ionized water and let dry(which is a common practice, that's generally how they wash newly made circuit boards). It could be the water getting inbetween some shoddy connections or something, too.

Bah, POS. The Oregon Scientific wireless units look nice, since they are All-Weather. I don't have that kind of money to spend on one right now though(I need more tubs!), but I'll get one eventually.
