BRF question
    #3265261 - 10/22/04 05:09 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

Hi,
I was having trouble finding brown rice flour, so what i did was buy a bag of brown rice. I took it home and used a coffee grinder. It worked alright, but it didn't grind it completely. Most of it did turn into flour, but I was left with alot of half rice peices. No matter how much I grinded, the damn stuff just wouldn't grind anymore. I had no choice and used it for my substrate. My question is, will it make a big difference that my brf isn't completely powdered. Will small chunks of rice cause problems towards the growth?
Thanks,
~Desiree~

No, think about it like this: people who use WBS are using whole grains, surely, half-grains will definitely work if hydrated.

I burnt out my coffee grinders trying to get rid of those chunks before.  I have a new coffee grinder that does it better, but I still have a few medium sized chunks in mine and they are all okay.  Didn't effect fruiting, either.

Good luck!

Sam

I think you should be using a pressure cooker with this though as the partially whole grains could contam in just a boil? I could be wrong though, someone will correct me if so. Maybe your using a pressure cooker anyway and I just don't remember..
