anyone like them? i've always loved "meat is murder" but they have so many other great albums.

right now i'm listening to "rubber ring," a fucking awesome song. they had a superior bassist, and very underrated guitarist.

yeah it is kinda depressing. morrisey's solo stuff is too, but it's not as good in my opinion.

How soon is now

"There's a club if you'd like to go
you could meet someone who really loves you
so you go and you stand on your own
and you leave on your own
and you go home and you cry and you want to die "

Has to be some of the most depressing lyrics ever written!

I like some Smiths songs.

But when I read interviews with Morrisey, I get real pissed off.

I was a big Smiths fan a few years ago when I was depressed and alone. It really went well with my lifestyle. The music doesn't really impact me much anymore and I rarely listen to it now.

I dunno, I have bouts with depression occasionally (and would consider them to be normal) but I wouldn't consider The Smiths to compliment my lifestyle in any way really.. I just like their music.

Their guitarist and bassist particularly.. they both have very recognizable styles..

oh man, where to begin? Morrissey is undoubtedly one of the most underrated/ unrecognized poets around today. Aside from his sometimes strange politics and interviews (but hey- that is what makes him unique), he writes the epitome of a perfect pop song (structure/ changes) and has been lauded by some of my other favorite musicians (Trent Reznor/ Chrissie Hynde). I will NEVER forget being soooo stoned and hearing HATEFUL OF HOLLOW for the first time- the ethereal guitars, amazing bass lines- WOW! That was over 15 years ago and I still think that no other band has touched me the way the Smiths have.
And depressing, well- YES, has anyone ever heard "Sunny", about his friends descent into heroin?
"we're really missing you- REALLY missing you-
and you've only just gone
So Sunny send at least a thoughtful letter-
my heart goes out to you
tell us all how things are so much better
I cry when I see where its taken you-
What else can I do?"

Aside from the melancholy, Morrissey's intended sarcasm is pure genius. And on the lighter side I remember seeing an article about Morrissey having Thanksgiving at Pamela Anderson's house one year- I bet that was INTERESTING! "Darling could you please pass the
To-Furkey?" HAHAHA

Wot he said.

"...I was delayed, I was way-laid
An emergency stop
I smelt the last ten seconds of life
I crashed down on the crossbar
And the pain was enough to make
A shy, bald, buddhist reflect
And plan a mass murder..."

Oh, the devil will find work for idle hands to do.

Indeed.

bf6 :heartpump: The Smiths

The only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won't let go of life, your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away. But they're not punishing you, they're freeing your soul. So, if you're frightened of dying and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away, but if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth...
