Light Cycle for Pinning
    #3263900 - 10/22/04 08:16 AM (19 years, 5 months ago)

When I wake up in the morning (around 6am) I turn on the light that is in my room (just a standard desk lamp) until I have to go to work a couple hours later. Though by that time the sun is up and there is light coming through the window. Once the sun starts to set in the evening I then turn on my light until around 9pm. Is the switching of lights (lamp to sun) a good idea?

Thanks

I can't see that being a problem, and that many hours of light a day isn't even necessary.

Mine only get around 3 hours of light each day from a small desk lamp and are doing just fine.  A lot of people suggest a 12/12 light/dark period until pins begin to show, and then cut it back to a 8/16 light/dark.

I can't do this due to uncontrollable circumstances

Yeah there was an experiment or study that showed mushrooms actually grow a bit larger in darkness (and minimal light i'm sure). I read about it once but its been a while.

Less then 8 hours on actually..I do just enough for them to grow up. As little as 1-4 hours is often enough (depending on your light source). That is of course after they pin. 12-18 hours while initating the pinset though. I've noticed shrooms growing bigger getting the larger dark cycle, they wait another day or so to mature instead of sprouting up real quick and popping the veil.

Hmmm....

I have cakes of different ages in my PMP, some that are pinning and some that have yet to pin... so I've been leaving it at 12/12, but I think I'll cut it back to 6/18 ASAP.

as long as they arent in direct sunlight they are fine, I went caving a couple of
weeks ago, in the cave there was a mushrom growing from a little debris that
has been blown in/carried in, the only light that these mushies recieved were
a little light from the occasional flashlight... the couple of hours from your
desk lamp is sufficent, the sunlight will help them grow in a specific direction
