Help with ID please
    #3262840 - 10/22/04 12:17 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

The first picture- Stems bruised more purple than blue and cap has not changed color much at all. Spore print is more of a tan color.

The second picture- Slight blueing in cap but stem did not blue. Spore print was purpleish.

another question- I have found a couple patches that look like pelliculosa. They have a purple spore print that turned black by the next day. No blueing that I could see. I threw them away after I saw the black spore print, but they looked an awfull lot like the pelliculosa. However I could not find information about spore print with those.

Thank you for the help.

not sure about the top but the bottom looks like some species of stropharia.

it would be helpful to know where in the world these were found and what they were growing in btw...

read this if you haven't yet for more info: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/2263556/an/0/page/0#2263556

never heard of spore prints changing color. but psathyrellas (P. gracilis etc.) in woodchips have fooled many beginners for pellis or semis...

Are those gills attached to the stem in the second pic???

I have found some of the light colored cyans that you really have to twist to get any blue out of. I believe that's because they are drying naturally in the sun and have bleached out...but I'm not sure about that. Just my theory.

There are many people that know the species much better than me.

Good luck to you in your hunting and welcome to the board. It's a great place to learn!

the second picture- they were found growing along a trail. Pretty sure under a fern with pine needs on ground and some fern leaves rotting away with em.

I live a little north of Bellingham.  Actually been out lookinf alot and cant seem to find any that I am sure about.  Its good exercise though Ill keep looking

your first picture is Clitocybe nuda, the Blewit.

you will want to take a spore spint to confirm, but there are few mushrooms that resemble it when moist and showing so much purple. the Blewit is a good edible having a flavor that accompanies meat and pasta dishes well. when drying, it smells slightly fruity [like "fruit loops" cereal]. where you find one, you usualy find several to many.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
