draining birdseed

After i steep my seed i must not be draining enough water out before i put into jars/bags. I'm ALWAYS geting water pooling. what should i do?

Add course vermiculite it will suck up the water and mahe your bird seeds no so heavy

steep your seed. dump into a collander(sp?) rinse with water. Shake out as much excess water as possible for a few minutes. Load up jars and p-cook. Be sure no water is getting into the jars from the bottomn of th p-cooker. This is what a friend does.

dont steep for so long and the seeds will absorb less moisture. any residual moisture that would normaly pool in the bottom of the jar will absorb into the seed. You will have to test different times to asure that your seeds don't end up to dry.

Yeah, rinse them off real good, let them strain in a strainer, then, what I used to do was l would fill my quart jars halfway with the seed, let them sit about 10 or 20 minutes, then, any water that is still in the jar will be pooled at the bottom, just pour it out.
