it sounds to me that they where not totaly dry. some bacteria can rot a mostly dry mushroom if it is put into a plastic bag rather quickly. i recomend air/dehydrator drying followed by the use of a dessicator for long-term preservation or air/dehydrator drying and storage in a breathable container for short-term preservation.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

What about freezing the mushrooms after they dry? Does that work well? :smile2:

Yes, when cracker dry. Fan for 24hrs, over desicant for 24 hours, and you should be fine to freeze.

Do some mushrooms seem to be able to pick up moister from the air if you don't keep a dessicator in the bag with em?

I haven't ever had any problems with that. My dry mushrooms usually stay dry.
