New & Excited!!
    #3260773 - 10/21/04 04:56 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Hi Everyone,

What a Great place I happened on!

I've been studying on the net. I have to wait 2 more weeks before I get my extensive field guides.

I live in S.E. Tennessee. It's very hard to identify shrooms when there are only similiaries available.

Question:

Are all shrooms with "white gills" toxic?
I found some with a light-brown cap, turned up, the stem is dark brown. There is evidence of animals eating them.

I have found some with a ring around the stem and an indented volval, light brown gills with the cap slightly turned up.

Actually, I found 4 species that I will have to send pics to Univ. of Tenn. Mycology Lab. There's nothing on the net that is only close by a couple to three discriptors.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

No.

This is not an effective method for distinguishing edible or poisonous mushrooms. Animals' digestive systems are different than ours, so some animals can eat some mushrooms that are poisonous to us without harm.

Your description of mushrooms is so vague that nobody could possibly even get close to genus with any certainty. As Gumby said, read the sticky thread and post a better description.

Happy mushrooming!

Welcome!

You have found a great resource here and a great group of people who know what they're doing in a lot of ways.

Good luck with your mushrooming!
