another tub in tub alternitave
    #3259720 - 10/21/04 10:27 AM (12 years, 1 month ago)

ok so i have no tub in tub but heres what i did i got one bucket of water filled it about 2 inches full of water. then i got a quart jar filled that all the way up and put the heater in the quart jar. set the temperature and let it sit overnight. i put a fish tank thermomoter on the side of the bucket Now the temp is at 82.
my question is it ok to put the jars in sandwich bags so they wouldnt get wet, and put the bags in the water. is this ok or should i do something else.

I'm not sure that sandwich bags are always completely waterproof. I would try to build some sort of wire-mesh shelf over the top of the water, but a major bonus to the tub-in-tub is that you aren't exposed to the sitting water that heats it.

I'm also not the most knowledgeable about all this, but just my 2 cents.

Another point that makes the tub in tub a good concept is because it allows for air/gas exchange. Your mycellium will grow much better with proper air flow. Could you suspend another bucket on top of the bucket with the heater. Possibly you could put screws through the side of the bucket to hold it above the heater. or you could build some sort of platform to place around the heater aparatus for the other bucket to sit on...

instanity, tub in tub incubator uses water not for presence of water, but stable temperature you get from high specific heat characteristic. If you this desperate, I suggest you take a deep breath first. Now, think about the risks before you do an experiment.

Here's one of ways that will work for you.

You can put your heater in a cup and put it next to the jars in your bucket. It won't be as good as a tub in tub, but it'll be safer and work relatively well. Good luck to ya.
