Bruce Lee
    #3258693 - 10/21/04 01:08 AM (12 years, 6 months ago)

I can't say I would be star struck if I met anyone famous. I was watching his life story tonight, for the 5th time. What about him is it that is so riviting? I could listen to him talk forever.

This guy asks him to teach him and he replies, "I can not teach you. I can only help you to explore yourself"

Fuck he is so cool.

He said, "Being phoney, fancy, and pretentious and putting on a show is easy. The most difficult thing to do is express the truth of who you are and how you feel."

He's not just a great philosopher running his trap. He took his philosophies and materialized them through his martial arts. He put them into action and demonstrated their worth and application.

Does anyone know the truth of how he died?

I forget which movie, but they have it end to tie in with the ending of his life, that he was called to battle his demon and lost.

Was that symbolic for something he struggled with?

I remember hearing he OD'd on cocain. I find that hard to beleive and then again "hollywood and the 70s"??????????

Thanks! Do you know what caused it? I would assume he took a nasty blow to the head, but maybe it was anouther cause.

He was a cool guy, but like many stars that died young, his fame grew even greater after his death. The myth overshadows the person, and we often wonder how much more they (Elvis, Hendrix, Morrison, Cobain, Belushi; etc.) might have contributed.

Don't forget the actor who played Bruce Lee (Jason Scott Lee) also has an amazing physique and is quite charismatic which can stir some emotions and admiration.

i think the movie where he battled the demon was "Dragon; The Bruce Lee Storey"

and i think the cerebral edema, was caused by a strange reaction to some pain killers he took.... 'ts wat i heard anyway.

Rumour has it that lee was a pot head. He was apparantly into Alan Watts philosophy too. Best thing I liked about him was that he took all the best moves, or the moves that were useful from all the martial arts, and not just stick to one discipline.

Thanks for all the replies!

The movie I saw last night is the one where they show clips of him being interviewed, home video, they interview his wife, and clips from his movies and narate his life story. It was HIM in that one.

I've seen the one you are talking about swami, at least 3 times also and the actor plays a riviting role as well.

ya ninja pixxie. I agree with his philosophy to study it all and take the best of it and personalize it. He called it the no style style and the best about it to him was that it allowed you to adapt to any situation because of its flexibility.

And it is not just what he says but HOW he says it. He lets you in to the depths of his mind and speaks as if he is revealing great secrets and he can demonstrate their worth as well.

I liked how in one of his movies, on the boat to the competetion, this guy tries to pick a fight with him asking his style and he says, "My style is the no fight fighting. The guy asks him what he is talking about. So Lee suggests they take the dinghy to a beach and says he will sow him. The other guys gets on the dinghy first and then Lee unties the mooring rope on him. Ahahahahahaha

Ya know ow in the movie where jason scott lee plays him, his back is injured in the grudge match? In real life, if you didn't know, that never happened, that was hollywood drama. he injured his vertebre while weight training. To know the doctors said he would be lucky to walk again, and how he took his healng into his own hands and became an even greater fighter is amazing and inspiring.

I'll stop blubbering over his almighty coolness now.

Most of the guys you referenced made their contribution. There is no need to guess what they MIGHT have contributed. Their deaths were a sacrifice to the public. We need rock star/celebrity legends in our culture..it is just part of us.

I havn't read that one. I do have a book called "Zen in the Martial Arts" by Joe Hyams. It's great. It's full of Bruce Lee quotes and personal stories about him.

I should post some quotes and stuff from it when I get a chance.

Not if you're really into the specific artist that died. When you are really into an artist that died, then all you can think about or imagine after a certain point of time is how great or what direction or what innovation or what expressive messege this guy would have taken.

Maybe not all artists would have contributed but the one I am thinking of I think would have.
