Incubator need F.A.E.?
    #3258109 - 10/20/04 10:49 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

While in incubation, the jars get f.a.e. through the holes in their lids. But, does the incubator need holes in it as well for CO2 to escape? Just a thought.

well as long as the incubator is not 100% air tight air will diffuse into the chamber. You should be fine.

First so your on the same page as us FAE is something which is done during fruiting not incubation. You got the second part right those holes allow excess co2 to escape. Heres something which will help you better understand the differenes between FAE and gas exchange:

Gas exchange: The ability to release builtup gases resulting from the myc's metabolic activity (consuming substrate). A result of this inability to release these gas creates EXCESS myc piss which BTW is a normal process (myc piss) but an excess is not, it can easily stall a cake. (do not lick your cakes or leave your holes taped)

FAE (fresh air exchange) is the lowering of the co2 concentration through the introduction of fresh air plain and simple. A good fresh air exchange includes the stagnated moisture pockets of the casing surface (microclimate). GL

Gas Exchange vs. FAE
