they say that you should pasturize poo in an over for a few hours at below boiling temperatures before using it as substrate. But why not stick it in a jar and PC it?

I think they dont raise the temperature of milk to boiling to kill off more germs because it will change how the milk tastes. But will poo be altered beyond use as a mycological substrate by raising it's temperature to well over boiling in a PC?

I understand that it might take a long time to jar and PC all the poo I'd want to use for a bulk grow, but safer no?

theoretically, pasteurizing poo kills all the bad bacteria leaving only the good which helps fend off bad bacteria in the future. If you sterilize the poo, all bacteria is killed, leaving the poo more susceptible to contams.

What is the optimal temperature and duration for pasturizing poo?

Yes there is good bacteria. In order to spawn it you need to pasturize it unless you keep it in bags until fully colonized and keep it fully sterile. You give yourself a few weeks where the poo and or straw wont contam because the good stuff can fight off the bad. Pasturize at 165-175 degrees F.
