light a flame, stick needle tip inside, suck in air. that is sterile air. use that to shake up the syringe.

u really gotta get jars to work with grains.

get jars.

maybe try Wild Bird Seed or the rye again, if u get jars.

ur soaking for a day, draining, simmering, loading,a nd PCing?

how long and at what pressure do u PC?

do u adjust ur PC settings to altitude?

I got the same type pc and it works well. You should try using those gladware or ziploc plastic containers. You can find tyvek at the post office. You can use some silicone to attach it to the container given that the silicone will withstand the pc. Do your normal soak, then simmer for about 45 min., let it drain a lil and load those containers up and cook them. Let'em cool off and inoculate through the lid and cover your holes with tape. You should be golden after that. I think your problem is all with the filter thing.

I think the ovious is overlooked... aluminum foil doesn't make a seal. The minute you take the cups out of PC, the evaporating water will escape. So, you let it cool all the way inside the PC, now what? As soon as you take them out of PC, you have escaping water vapors that gets replaced with air(water vapor is lighter than air).

The reason why it works with PF jar is because they have dry verm layer. I'd suggest the first thing you do is go get some jars. It'll also make the rest of procedures a lot easier to follow.
